This tool helps you estimate the exact amount of paint required. Save time, money, and avoid unnecessary trips to the store!

How to Calculate Paint Requirements

  1. Measure the length, width, and height of your room.
  2. Decide whether to include the ceiling in your calculations.
  3. Use the paint’s coverage rate (e.g., 350 sq ft per gallon).
  4. Apply this formula:
    • Total Wall Area = 2 × (Length × Height) + 2 × (Width × Height)
    • Ceiling Area (if included) = Length × Width
    • Paint Required = Total Area ÷ Paint Coverage

Example Calculation

Imagine a rectangular room:

  • Dimensions: 12 ft long, 10 ft wide, and 8 ft high.
  • Paint Coverage: 350 sq ft per gallon.
  • Ceiling: Included.

Calculation:

  1. Wall Area = 2 × (12 × 8) + 2 × (10 × 8) = 192 + 160 = 352 sq ft.
  2. Ceiling Area = 12 × 10 = 120 sq ft.
  3. Total Area = 352 + 120 = 472 sq ft.
  4. Paint Required = 472 ÷ 350 ≈ 1.35 gallons.

For this room, you’d need approximately 1.35 gallons of paint to cover the walls and ceiling.
