How to Calculate Screed Volume
Screed volume can be calculated using the formula:
Screed Volume = Area × Thickness
Where:
- Area = Length × Width
- Thickness is the depth of the screed layer in meters (or feet, depending on your unit of measurement).
The density of the screed material can be used to determine the weight of the required material.
Example Calculation
Flooring a rectangular area with a screed layer.
- Room Dimensions: 5 meters length × 4 meters width
- Screed Thickness: 0.05 meters (5 cm)
- Screed Density: 2000 kg/m³
- Calculate Area:
\text{Area} = 5 \, \text{m} \times 4 \, \text{m} = 20 \, \text{m}^2 - Calculate Screed Volume:
\text{Volume} = 20 \, \text{m}^2 \times 0.05 \, \text{m} = 1 \, \text{m}^3 - Material Weight:
\text{Weight} = \text{Volume} \times \text{Density}
\text{Weight} = 1 \, \text{m}^3 \times 2000 \, \text{kg/m}^3 = 2000 \, \text{kg}
You’ll need 1 cubic meter of screed, weighing 2000 kg.
