How to Calculate Shower Tiles
To calculate the total number of tiles required:
- Determine the Total Area:
- Add the area of the shower walls (Length × Height + Width × Height) and the floor (Length × Width).
- Calculate Tile Area:
- Multiply the length and width of a single tile to find its area.
- Factor in Wastage:
- Include a wastage percentage (typically 10–15%) to account for cutting and breakage.
- Divide Total Area by Tile Area:
- This gives you the number of tiles needed.

Example Calculation:
- Shower dimensions: Length = 5 ft, Width = 3 ft, Height = 8 ft.
- Tile size: 12 in × 12 in (1 ft² per tile).
- Wastage: 10%.
Calculation:
- Wall Area:
2 × [(5 × 8) + (3 × 8)] = 2 × (40 + 24) = 128 ft². - Floor Area:
5 × 3 = 15 ft². - Total Area:
128 + 15 = 143 ft². - Tile Requirement (including wastage):
143 ÷ 1 × 1.1 = 158 tiles.
