How to Calculate Gravel Volume and Weight
The volume of gravel can be calculated using this simple formula:
Volume = Length × Width × Depth
Ensure that all dimensions are in the same unit (feet or meters). Once the volume is calculated, the weight can be estimated using the approximate density of gravel. Typically, 1 cubic foot of gravel weighs around 0.05 tons.
Example:
A driveway measuring 20 feet in length, 10 feet in width, and 0.5 feet in depth:
- Volume = 20 × 10 × 0.5 = 100 cubic feet
- Weight = 100 × 0.05 = 5 tons
